Assamese aromatic rice to find place on European plates - The famed aromatic 'Joha' rice, unique to Assam, is being exported to the UK, Germany and Switzerland. The first consignment would contain 60 metric tonnes of the flavoured organic Joha rice. The export is expected to boost at least 154 farmers initially, official sources said. MEP increased to $ 500 with effect from last week of Dec 2008 - With a view to discouraging exports to augment domestic supplies, the Union government has raised the minimum export price (MEP) for all non-basmati rice shipments from $ 425 (Rs 17,000) a tonne free on board (f.o.b.) to $ 500 (Rs 20,000) a tonne with immediate effect.
