High yielding rice varieties change Economy of Tripura villages - The high-yielding rice variety Nabin, Shanti and Pusha-44 have changed the economy of five villages of the Bagma segment in South Tripura, about 50 kms south-west of Agartala. With help from ICAR Research Complex, Tripura centre, about 30 hectares, including seven hectares of wasteland in the villages, are now covered by green crops, while about a 100 marginal farmers have got an assurance of food security round the year, official sources said. For about a decade, the poor villagers in the region were seriously affected due to the emergence of militancy. A number of internal displacements were also reported in the area but now it becomes a model agricultural village of the state. UAE may face Basmati

There have been no significant changes in domestic prices. Export prices have increased slightly due to the rupee further strengthening against the US Dollar Prices (All prices in USD). Export Prices CNF Gulf Countries. In USD PMT, all prices tentative in 45/50 kg new jute bags (Sortexed)
Still no major business reported. However, if Pakistan suppliers reduce exports because of heavy losses the pressure will increase to buy from India.
The prices for Crop 2006-07 have only risen and chances of prices coming down are very remote. Should cover up.
